Beat the Heat with These Summer Events in Northeast Mississippi

Union County, Pontotoc County, Lee County, and everywhere in between—Northeast Mississippi is full of one-of-a-kind communities.

As the summer season arrives, work slows down, school gets out, and the towns in the area start buzzing with events! From movies in the park to downtown celebrations, here’s your guide to the can’t-miss happenings around Northeast Mississippi this season.

Summer Movie Series

What: Both New Albany and Tupelo are hosting outdoor movie series this month. In New Albany, the series will be changing venues every month to encourage exploring the community, and movies on the schedule include Small Foot, The Lego Movie 2, and The Incredibles 2. The first film kicks off on May 31st!

Over in Tupelo, the festivities will be held behind the Ballard Park Soccer Sportsplex concession stand, and the titles will eventually be announced on the Tupelo Parks and Recreation Facebook page. The first is set to show on June 15th.

Tupelo Elvis Festival

What: Tupelo is the birthplace of Elvis, and every summer is time to celebrate the King! The Tupelo Elvis Festival features live music (both Elvis’ hits and the styles that inspired him), an Elvis Tribute Competition, food trucks, a 5K, and an all-out, community-wide celebration. Plus, it’s totally free (although a few events require tickets)!

New Albany Farmers’ Market

What: Known to locals as the Biscuits and Jam Farmers’ Market, the market in New Albany kicks off next month and brings together the best and freshest of local produce and goods, perfect for rounding out your favorite summer recipes. In addition to the vendors, you’ll also find special events like live music, chef demonstrations, and more.

Where: Downtown New Albany

When: Thursdays starting June 7th

Summer Garden Party

What: Need to fill up on seasonal houseplants and succulents? The Summer Garden Party hosted at Trove Warehouse will feature plants from Slate Run Studio, tasty rose lemonade, and mouthwatering treats from Carrie’s Sugar Buzz.

All-America City Family Picnic in the Park

What: The biggest 4th of July celebration in the state happens right here in Tupelo! The All-America City Family Picnic in the Park offers tons of local food and drinks, fun activities for all ages, and live entertainment. It’s the can’t-miss, quintessential celebration of the summer!

New Albany 4th of July Parade & Festival

What: Not to be outdone, New Albany also boasts a pretty impressive 4th of July celebration. The event features a parade full of floats, jugglers, bands, a 5K run and walk, tons of activities, and fireworks to end the night.

Down on Main

What: A totally free series that kicks off in July and happens once a month through September, Down on Main is one of the last big events of the summer. Check out the live music, enjoy some delicious local food and drink, and hang out with the rest of the community!
